Brief History of Tanzania
Tanzania is a country located in East Africa, formed in 1964 from the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. It has a diverse population of approximately 61.7 million people, comprising over 120 ethnic groups. The official languages are Swahili and English.
Economy
The economy of Tanzania is primarily driven by:
- Agriculture: A significant portion of the population engages in subsistence farming.
- Tourism: The country is famous for attractions like Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti National Park.
- Natural Resources: Tanzania has untapped offshore gas reserves, which are expected to contribute to economic growth.
Historical Conflicts
Tanzania has experienced several notable conflicts:
- Maji Maji Rebellion (1905-1907): A revolt against German colonial rule, resulting in significant loss of life due to famine and military suppression.
- Zanzibar Revolution (1964): A violent uprising that led to the overthrow of the Sultanate of Zanzibar, contributing to the formation of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Despite these historical conflicts, Tanzania has maintained relative political stability since its independence.
CIYWR in Tanzania
As with our other Revival outreaches, we purposely work with local pastors and religious leaders well in advance of our Crusades, during the Revivals, and afterwards. We have found this partnership to be the most effective in winning souls for Christ and making solid disciples of the new converts. Because of the large area, and population, we have found that we must be very strategic with our resources (both financially and with our time).
